He called last night as he was walking around in Sydney. It's a good thing I hadn't succumbed to my desire to go to bed at a decent time! He arrived in Sydney the evening before and got a room at the Backpackers HQ Hostel. Of the hostels he's stayed in thus far, this one has the most people per room, with 12 bunks. His first hostel had only 4 and the second had room for 6 but was usually occupied by just five.
His first impression of Sydney was that it's "different" and when comparing it to Brisbane it's "a dirtier city." Brisbane seemed more sprawling and Sydney more compact. Of course he also said that it's possible that it's just based on what parts of Brisbane he happened to see and what part of Sydney he's in.
He had spent two nights in Coffs Harbour before hitting the road for some camping along the way to Sydney. The last night of camping was actually spent driving around looking for a camp spot before finally finding a rest area around 5 AM. Apparently the app that he was using for finding free camp sites needs some updating.
It was great to hear from him. Hoping to receive some more photos soon.
